about

about a month before our 3rd birthday show at the grog, WRUW had us out to their studios to let us do a live on air show.

when we walked in they threw us in a room by ourselves, told us to not swear, not demand people go to our show, and they just let us go. No on air dj asking us questions or anything.

So we played in a room full of records while a few people took photos of us and that was really it.

it was a varied and interesting set looking back on it. We had been on the road for several months at that point. It was nice to be back in cleveland, it was nice to be on home turf.

we ran through songs from our current record "until the next red light" like " better", "without a fight", "break", and "drive"

as well as a few older songs like "girl named hell (retitled for this occasion... thank you janet jacksons breast)" and an old but unreleased song "living on top of buildings"

as well as several new songs we'd been road testing for months at that time "your mass grave of hope", "she cut me in half", "calendar" and "pulled"

the rest of the tracks are us making up banter as we go along. Some of it sinks, some of it swims.

it was a fun show to do, I recall it being a high point for us because at the time there weren't really any good live recordings of us, or at least live recordings of this quality of us.

I hope you enjoy this moment. It really represents us at the peak of our live powers with the wonderfully talented Evan Wilhelms on guitar who basically was with us for all the years between "until the next red light" and the songs that would become "lost levels". He understandably took off after a few rough years on the road, but I'm glad to finally have him and his musical presence represented on a this is exploding recording from start to finish.

thank you so much for listening.
